Farewell to Mrs Duda: A Legacy of Dedication and Inspiration

Published on: 28 February 2025

After more than 40 years of dedicated service, Mrs Duda, a respected and revered educator, is retiring from Sunward Park High School.

Mrs Duda has been a pillar of strength in our school community. Her teachings, words of encouragement, and unwavering presence have made a profound impact on the hearts and minds of Sunward Park High School students.

Reflecting on her four-decade career, Mrs Duda highlighted the notable changes she has witnessed in education. One of the most significant differences between when she started teaching and today is the advancement of technology and the increased availability of resources. Comparing 1994 to the present, she acknowledges the significant transformation of the education system. Another key change she has observed is the growing diversity among both students and teachers at the school.

When asked about her motivation for teaching, Mrs Duda shared, “The types of learners we have want to learn, and the teachers we have want to teach.” She expressed her desire to pave the way for students to depend on their education and academic achievements for a better future.

One of the most cherished moments of her career was a classroom debate that unfolded on one of the topics she had taught. She recalls how deeply engaged her students were, actively listening and critically thinking. Knowing she had made an impact on their perspectives and learning experience warmed her heart.

Mrs Duda’s parting wish is to leave behind a legacy of unity—not only within the school but across South Africa as a whole. She hopes that we will continue to uplift and encourage one another like a family.

Her final words to Sunward Park High School come from Psalm 37:4: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

As we bid farewell to Mrs Duda, we honour her remarkable contributions and the lasting influence she has had on generations of students. Her legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.
